TWENTY MINUTES

"Now what do we do?"

I'd always thought I'd be the one asking that question if Kathryn and I ever made it this far. I propped my head on one hand and let the other rest on her soft belly. It felt as tight as a Ferengi's purse; Kathryn was so tense she was quivering. She lay on her back, outwardly relaxed, but her rigid stomach and averted eyes gave her away.

I'd always known denial and guilt could overwhelm her. Whatever happened next, I was determined she wouldn't withdraw from me. I let my hand drift down to the sodden curls between her legs--wet with my semen. Mine. Not Tom Paris', or Kashyk's, or Michael's holographic offering. Not any transient alien--and I knew she'd had a few. No. We'd finally made it to this point, falling together in a maelstrom of need one night when Voyager had once again slithered her way out of a corner so tight we should have needed engine grease.

My fingers toyed with a wet, red curl, and I pretended not to notice how her thighs tightened to stop my explorations. I injected a smile into my voice and said, "If you wait twenty minutes, we can do it again."

She didn't raise so much as a chuckle. "Chakotay." Steel in her voice. "We need to define-"

I'd heard enough. I leaned over and stopped her words with a kiss, using all the love I had for her to coax her into a response. For a moment her lips were hard and unyielding under mine, but at least she wasn't pushing me away. When I flicked her upper lip with my tongue, she moaned, a breathy little sound, into my mouth and her lips softened.

I raised my head. "No parameters. They nearly killed me once. Never again."

She turned and looked at me, and her eyes were sharp and bright. She obviously wasn't going to let that particular point go easily.

"There's a place for everything, Chakotay. And I think this was a mis-"

I kissed her again; harder this time, firmer, and my fingers inched their way further between her legs until I touched her swollen lower lips. I'd been there. I'd been inside her, inside Kathryn. And right then, I swore to myself that I'd never have another woman.

"We should have been at this point five years ago," I said firmly. "On New Earth. I've been patient all these years and waited for you-"

Her lips thinned and she reared up, twisting around to face me. "You've been patient? I don't think I need to remind you about Riley, about Ensign Downey, about-"

"Your list is as long as mine. But that's irrelevant. We're here now, and I'm not letting you slide away." My fingers moved in her moisture. "There is nothing to stand in our way. Take this as fair warning, Kathryn. If you try to freeze me out, I'll embarrass you in front of the bridge crew by asking why. If you change you door code, I'll override it with Maquis tactics, and if they fail, I'll ask Tuvok to help me."

"Tuvok would never-" she spat.

"No," I agreed. "He wouldn't; not normally. But he might be persuaded when I tell him why I need them."

Her eyes glittered, and her mouth shut with a snap.

"I'll dance with you at Neelix's next party in such a way that no one, no one, on this crew is in any doubt what we are to each other. And if you push me away, I'll play the wounded, rejected lover and cry on the shoulder of any available crewman. I'm sure Tom would be happy to lend me an ear."

"Tom's the biggest gossip in Star Fleet."

"Or out of it," I agreed. "Exactly."

Almost casually, my fingers strummed a delicate pattern on her clit, and I suppressed a smile when she gasped. Her thighs relaxed fractionally.

"The crew are going to know one way or the other. And they'll either have sympathy for me as the spurned lover, and pity for you as the woman who couldn't take the happiness offered her, or they'll be envious of both of us and happy we've finally found each other." I smiled gently down at her, and my fingers left her sex to trail up over her body and cup her chin. "Which is it to be, Kathryn?"

She stared at me solemnly, all the spit and vinegar gone. Now she was serious.

"It won't be easy."

"I know."

"One fight could derail both partnerships, professional and personal."

"We won't let it."

"I'll treat you the same as any other officer."

"I wouldn't have it any other way."

"I love you."

I smiled. Finally the words. "I know."

"Twenty minutes has passed."

I rolled her underneath me, and my cock thickened at her words.

"I know."
