"So, Kathryn, what do you want to do?" Chakotay glanced at the small figure in baggy sweats beside him on their couch.

Her eyes didn't lift from the PADD she read. "I'm doing it," she replied, and sipped from her coffee mug.

"Really? It's your birthday, we both have the afternoon off, and this is all you want to do?"

"Well, almost." Lifting her bare feet to the coffee table, she slid down slightly in her seat, then leaned her head against his shoulder. "There. Perfect."

He placed a kiss on the top of her head and had to agree.

LATER:

Chakotay towel-dried his hair in the bedroom. "Kathryn, you've been reading B'Elanna's report all afternoon. Time to get ready for your party. Kathryn?" He poked his head around the door and sighed.

"Chakotay to Neelix."

"Neelix here. Problem, Commander?"

"We're going to be late. Sorry."

The Talaxian sighed. "Fell asleep on the couch again?"

"You got it."

"We'll delay an hour, like usual. Neelix out."

Chakotay gently touched his dear one's hair, then drew the PADD from her sleep-loosened fingers. Eyebrows lifted.

An hour later when she awoke, he asked, "Kathryn, how could you fall asleep reading a Klingon romance?"
