Summary: I wanted to do a little something where Janeway got to do more than sit on the bridge, and show she could hold her own in a "situation."
The alien attack was completely unexpected. Chakotay yelled, "Captain, duck!" and launched himself, knocking her aside. Pain took him into blackness. Janeway rolled and came up firing, taking out two assailants. "Away team to Voyager. Emergency beam out!"
They'd been lucky. Harris and Tabor were critical, Chakotay serious, but all would survive.
Regaining consciousness in sickbay, body aching, he found a teary Kathryn leaning over him.
"You wonderful, silly, brave, fool. Next time, Chakotay, take your own advice." She looked around; nobody was nearby. She brushed his lips with hers. "Duck. That's an order."
Well worth the pain, he thought.
