New Earth’s Legacy
by Sheri

Chakotay stepped off the transport into the bright sunlight; he looked around and found that everything still looked familiar.  How long had it been since he had been here?   Seven years in the Alpha Quadrant, two years on the penal colony; too long, it had been too long.  Dorvan still looked the same though, he was glad for that.  Someone was approaching him; she didn’t look familiar at first, but as she approached he recognized her. “Mataya, is that you?”

“The one and only, Chakotay.  You look like hell.”

“Gee thanks, I missed you, too.”  He was happy to see a familiar face.

“Come on, Father said you could stay with us until you figure out what you are going to do.  They still don’t want you to go to Earth, huh?”

“I’m not sure; I requested transport to earth and they said “no” but they haven’t exactly said I couldn’t go there on my own.”

“So you’re still going to try to go?”  She sounded quite curious.

“Of course.  I thought I would wait a few weeks, let me get used to freedom and give Starfleet time to adjust to the idea of me being out, then I’m off.”

“So just what is the reason you have to get there?” Mataya asked curiously.

Chakotay couldn’t help but smile, “Well, . . .”

“Forget it.  Lets get you home first; then I want to hear all about her.”  She grabbed one of Chakotay’s bags and they headed in the direction of her house.

**************

He sat listening to the conversation floating around the dinner table; Mataya’s father was a lot like his own, keeping very much to the old ways.  He didn’t approve of interaction among Federation members and Dorvan; he just tolerated it.   Chakotay and Mataya were old friends and shared many of the same ideas about the old ways – at least they had in their youth.  Neither had followed the ways of their fathers until later in life.  Chakotay could tell Mataya wanted to talk to him because she was very antsy about something.

“Father, could you excuse us, please? Chakotay and I have a lot of catching up to do.”

“Yes, that’s fine; it’s late and I want to meditate before I turn in.”  He smiled as he rose and left the table.

************

“Ok, Chakotay, spill it.  Who is this woman?  You haven’t stopped smiling yet.”

“Kathryn Janeway -- she was my commanding officer aboard Voyager.”

“Ooh, tell me more.”

“Well, I hope there will be more to tell in a few weeks.  I haven’t heard from her since I was sent to the penal colony.  Before the trial, I saw a side of her that she had kept hidden for a long time while we were still on Voyager.  Once we were back in the Alpha Quadrant, I could tell that a weight had been lifted from her shoulders, that she finally felt free.  She came to me the first night we were in Earth orbit.”  He reddened slightly at the memory of their first frantic coupling when they never made it to his bed.  They made love all through the night and every night after that until the trial forced their separation.

“Hey! I lost you there.”

“Sorry, memories.  They’re what kept me going the last two.  I’ve often wondered why she didn’t write, but I didn’t hear from anyone else either so I suspect the prison kept mail from me intentionally.”

“Of course, I’ve heard they do that.  I’m sure she still thinks of you and can’t wait to see you.”  Mataya paused before she continued.  “Well, . . .I . . . um, I . . ..”  She was nervous.

“Mataya, I have never known you to be at a loss for words.  What is it?”

“OK.  Well, you know how Father is, and you heard him say the Federation has sent a lot of people here over the past few years.”

“Yeah, I remember you talking about that.”

“Well, Chakotay, I met someone, someone very special. Jack was stationed here for a short time I worked with him a lot, and before I knew it I was in love. Jack asked me to marry him; I wanted to but couldn’t go with him at the time. Now, well you know the rules of the tribe. I can’t leave Dorvan unless a relative or someone Father approves as his proxy accompanies me. Oh this is all so stupid!  I should be able to just leave if I want to.”

Chakotay studied Mataya for a moment, “It’snot stupid, Mataya. It’s the rules of our ancestors that we have all chosen to respect. But I still don’t see what the problem is, come with me.  I’m going to Earth soon and you can simply come with me.  We’ll have to get you an entry visa, but that shouldn’t be too much of a problem. We’ll have your father help with that since I don’t know how popular I am with Starfleet, and I don’t want my name stamped all over your papers.  But this shouldn’t be a problem.”

“Really, you don’t mind?”

“Why would I mind Mataya, you are just being ridiculous, go talk to your father, I’m sure he’ll approve.”

She jumped into his arms “ Oh! Thank you, Chakotay. I knew I could count on you.”

He had to laugh, she was always the enthusiastic one.  “No problem, Mataya. No problem at all.”

************

It didn’t take long for Chakotay to find what he had been looking for; he knew that someone must have saved his family’s things, and now he sat slowly going through the large box. There wasn’t much left from such a large family; he had just hoped the most important thing survived. He now held the small box in his hands: his parents’ rings.  They would be perfect. His mother’s would now be Kathryn’s; its beautiful, delicate features would be perfect for her. He took the rest of the momentos and went back to Mataya’s home.  They would be leaving tomorrow.  He had already been here two weeks, but her father had insisted they take their time; he did not want his daughter to just rush off.

************
Chakotay now understood all the waiting he had to endure with Mataya’s family, they had just been transported to the ship that would take them to Earth, and Mataya was clutching his hand with a death grip. “Hey, are you ok?”
Mataya just nodded her head, watching the young attendant who was looking over her entry visa, “You are heading for Earth to be married?” the young man asked.

“Yes” she simply answered.

“How nice, everything looks to be in order, I’ll have you shown to your quarters.”

They followed a second young man until they reached their destination; he opened the door, motioned to them to enter, then quickly left. He glanced around the room, “hmmm, one bed.”

“Is that a problem?” Mataya asked nervously.

“No, it’s not. I already know that couches are comfortable; I’ll be just fine there.  Now what’s wrong?” He asked concerned.

“I’m sorry.  I’m just nervous. I’ve never been in space before.” She answered honestly.

“Never?  I didn’t realize that.  It will be just fine so don’t worry.” He reassured her.

“Thanks, Chakotay. Thanks for doing this for me.”

He kissed her forehead, “No.  No problem. Now why don’t we go have a look around, maybe get something to eat.

************

Kathryn sat at her desk staring at her monitor; she couldn’t believe the message she had just received. Owen Paris had just called her, first with the pretense of checking up on her but then he delivered the devastating news. “I’m sorry, Kath, but I thought you should know. Chakotay arrived on Earth on a commercial transport from Dorvan this morning; he was traveling with a young woman. On both of their entry visas it stated marriage was the reason for coming to earth. They had shared quarters. I didn’t want to be the one to tell you, but someone should.  All that you sacrificed for that man and he does this. It’s just not right, Kathryn.  If you need to talk later, call me.  Take care of yourself and your son. You’ll both need each other more than ever.” The message ended, Kathryn put her head in her hands; she wanted to cry.

Kathryn looked down to see little fingers reaching for the pad on the corner of the desk, “Kol, no.” She knew he was too small to actually reach anything on the desk but ever since he began to walk he was constantly into everything.  She reached down and picked up her son.  “Oh, Kol, what has your daddy done now?  I thought for sure he would come back for us.”

Kathryn made up her mind quickly; they would leave and go somewhere where they wouldn’t be found, at least for a while because she had a lot to think about.  She was no longer in Starfleet; she had taken early retirement when she found out she was pregnant with Kolopak.  Her mother had died a month after Kol was born and her only consolation there was that her mother had been able to see her grandson.  She would call her sister and tell her she was going to Lake George making sure Phoebe would not to tell anyone else.   She wanted to be alone; Phoebe would understand.   She packed up all that they needed and left the day after she learned Chakotay had married.

************

Chakotay and Mataya searched for Jack as soon as they arrived.  Chakotay didn’t want to leave Mataya until he was sure everything was all right on that end.  Seeing the other two together renewed Chakotay’s hope.  Jack told Chakotay that he was welcome to stay with him until he found Kathryn so Chakotay took him up on his offer and settled into the guestroom.  It wasn’t exactly smart, staying with someone in Starfleet since he still hadn’t found out how welcome he was here, but if he kept a low enough profile Starfleet might disregard his presence on Earth.

It didn’t take long to find Kathryn’s home.  She was living in her mother’s house.  Chakotay tried sending a message to her but got the Away status.  He would have to wait for her to return.  While he was searching for Kathryn, Jack had told him that he had heard about a death in the Janeway family, “The wife of Edward Janeway, if I remember correctly.” Jack explained.

“When did you hear this?” asked Chakotay.

“I’m not sure, must have been at least a year ago. I don’t remember the report exactly just that someone died.” Jack explained. He was sorry he hadn’t paid better attention, but being away on Dorvan he sometimes only got half of a story.

“Kathryn must have been devastated.” Chakotay wished he could have been there for her.  He had a lot of making up to do.

************

Kathryn was still completely distraught; no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t get over what Chakotay had done.  They had made promises to each other in the days before his trial.  Yes, he had told her she didn’t have to wait for him, but she had promised she would.  Chakotay had promised all those years ago to be by her side so she would never be alone.  Maybe he concluded that once they were back in the Alpha Quadrant she didn’t need him now that she had others she could turn to for comfort and companionship.

Kathryn felt bad for Kol; he was so young yet so sensitive to her mood swings and now he seemed to be winding down some.  He was content to just lie there and cuddle with her, something Kathryn really needed. He usually was so full of energy she just assumed it was all due to her depression.  Kol had fallen asleep so Kathryn put him in his crib and went back to the living room.  She picked up the cup of cold coffee -- she might as well get another one since she wasn’t going to get any sleep tonight.  Every time she put her head on the pillow thoughts of Chakotay came flying in.  That week before he was prosecuted was such a perfect week.  It had made her wonder why she had held him off for so long.  His touch, the feel of his skin and the taste of him were still fresh in her mind; it had been two years and it felt like yesterday.  She could still close her eyes and feel him rock hard inside of her -- such a glorious feeling.  She missed his touch and the feel of him, even his presence.  She just plain missed him.

She opened her eyes forcing herself back to reality, back to the reality that Chakotay was married to someone else and hadn’t even bothered to write and tell her.  Had he received any of her letters?  Did he even know about Kolopak?  She doubted that he did.   Kathryn honestly believed that Chakotay would never walk away from his son even if he walked away from her.  Maybe he thought she didn’t care and that she had indeed gone on with her life.  Maybe this was her fault.  Maybe she should have tried harder to get the letters to him, to ensure that they were actually delivered.

“Maybe you ought to go to bed, Kathryn.  This train of thought is getting you nowhere.  Kathryn peeked into the crib in the smaller bedroom.  Kol was still asleep. He had already been sleeping for 4 hours, which was unusually long for him.  He had also been acting rather listless for the past few days.  She reached in to touch his tiny forehead; it was hot -- very hot.  She picked him up and tried to wake him but couldn’t.  Panic-stricken, Kathryn grabbed her son and headed toward the nearest transport center intent on getting him to a hospital.

************

After hours of tests, they concluded that Kolopak had a rare blood disorder similar to leukemia, a disease that normally was treated. It was rare. Shatia’s syndrome is what they called it; only 1 in a 20 million babies ever develops it. Due to its similarities to leukemia, it was treated the same way. The doctors gave Kathryn the news and told them they would begin treatment immediately; she was relieved to hear it could be treated and went back to the waiting room to sit it out.  Her happiness was short-lived when the doctor returned just a short time later, “I’m sorry, the treatment won’t work. We ran a final test before we administered the donated marrow; it’s not compatible.  Your son’s blood has an added factor in it, one that does not match other A+ blood.  We would like to take a look at you, to see if you are a match. We need to see whether your blood has the same blood factor as your son’s.”

Kathryn’s heart sank, “Doctor, I’m AB+, I don’t believe I’m a compatible donor for my son.”  The look on the Doctors face told her that she was right.  The doctor put forth-another option. “What about his father? He might be an acceptable donor.”

“That may be difficult, but I can try to find him. I will find him. There is no other option.”

“Well, we would still like to take a look at you, there has to be an explanation for this anomaly in your son’s blood, and this might give us a head start.”  Kathryn nodded and followed them into a nearby lab where they drew blood samples before she headed toward the nearest computer link to make a few calls.

Kathryn was about to leave the room to make the calls, when it hit her: New Earth, the virus; that had to be it.  She rushed back to the area where the doctor was discussing Kol’s case with another doctor. “Doctor, that’s it! I know why…”

“Slow down. Now, why what?”

“The virus Chakotay and I had when we were on New Earth.  The cure was developed by another species so may have left some remnant or effect on us behind.  I completely forgot and you wouldn’t find a copy in my health records because it has been classified by Starfleet.”

“OK, calm down.  Are you saying that you and the baby’s father were infected with something that is unknown here in the Alpha Quadrant and that the cure is also unique to the Delta Quadrant?”

“Yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying.”

“Well, that could be it, the cure may have made permanent changes in your blood that was passed on down to your son.  And you’re saying his father was infected as well?”

“Yes, he was.”

“Any one else?”

“No, it was just Chakotay and I.”

“Well I would suggest you make those calls and find his father; he may be your son’s only hope at this point.”

***********

It wasn’t long after she put in a few calls to Starfleet that her sister Phoebe arrived to offer Kathryn some much-needed support.  Starfleet had promised to do what they could to find Chakotay, but they found no trace of him after he arrived on Earth.

“Phoebe, this doesn’t make sense.  The logs say he arrived here on earth, but after that, nothing.  God, what if they don’t find him? “

“Hey, what about old friends, someone on Voyager? Would he be with one of the crew?

“I haven’t talked to Tom and B’Elanna in a long time; they might know something. It can’t hurt to give it a try.”  She walked to the nurse’s station to use their link.

Kathryn reached Tom right away. “Captain, wow!  It’s been a long time.  How are you doing?”

“Not so good, Tom. Listen have either of you seen Chakotay?”

“No, I heard he was released but nothing after that.  Are you saying you haven’t?  That surprises me.”

“Won’t surprise you as much as my next piece of news.  All of this may be a shock especially since we haven’t talked since we returned but here goes.  Chakotay and I were together before his trial and imprisonment.  That resulted in . . . well . . ..”

“I knew you two had finally gotten together; that was obvious.  What did it result in?”  Tom had a feeling he knew the answer but waited for Kathryn to say it.

“Well, I got pregnant.  Kolopak is 17 months old now.  I received a message from your father a few weeks ago that Chakotay had been released from the penal colony and had gone straight to Dorvan where he met up with a friend of his; they arrived on Earth just a few days ago . . . to be married.”

“What!  Oh my gods, Belanna, get in here!  You’re not going to believe this!”

Kathryn waited for Tom to relay this latest news to B’Elanna, “That p’taq!  I’m going to kill him!  Did he know about the baby?”

“I doubt it.  I don’t think they were allowing him any mail.  He never answered any of my letters. Now for the real problem; Kol is sick, very sick.”  She paused to fight back the tears. “He has a rare blood disorder, one that normally could be treated with a bone marrow transplant. But we believe the virus that Chakotay and I had on New Earth, and the Vidian cure made changes in our blood chemistry that have been passed on to Kol. I’m not compatible but Chakotay may be so I need to find him.  I won’t interfere in his marriage and I won’t obligate him to Kol; I just want my son to live.” Kathryn broke down crying no longer able to hold back the emotions that were tearing her apart.

“Kathryn, we’ll look, everywhere; we won’t stop until we find him.  Where are you staying?”

“At the hospital near Lake George. I won’t leave his side.”

“Of course; we’ll find Chakotay Kathryn, don’t worry.”

************

Jack came flying into the apartment, “Chakotay, where are you?”

“In here.  What’s up, Jack?”

“They’re looking for you.”

“Who’s looking for me?”   Chakotay had no idea what Jack was talking about.

“There’s an all points bulletin out for you, top priority.  Starfleet wants to find you and find you now.  Admiral Paris has half the admiralty up in arms and you know how that can affect security.”

“Oh, hell!  I didn’t expect anything like this to happen so soon.  I should get out of here; you two don’t need this kind of trouble.”

“Well, they didn’t say what they wanted, just that they had to find you.  Maybe you should go talk to them.”

“No, not before I find Kathryn.  I need to see her first, talk to her, and try to restart my life with her.  I’m afraid if I go talk to Starfleet now, they’ll put me on the first transport headed away from Earth.  Starfleet will just have to wait.  Finding her won’t be easy while avoiding Security, but I don’t have a choice.”

“Alright, but stay in touch. Do you know where you’re going to go?”

“No and it’s better that you don’t know.  What you don’t know you don’t have to lie about.”

“Hey, what about Tom and B’Elanna?  Maybe they could help.”

“I’ll contact them in a couple days - maybe.  I have to go pack.”  Chakotay quickly packed and left; he wasn’t sure where he was going, but he wasn’t going to let Starfleet interfere before he found Kathryn.

************

Tom and Belanna didn’t have to search too long or too far; Chakotay showed up at their front door the next day. “Chakotay, we’ve been looking for you; everyone has.  Where have you been?”

“I know; I’ve been hiding out.  Starfleet is looking for me, too.  I . . ..”

B’Elanna didn’t let him finish, “You p’taq!  You have a lot of explaining to do here; you’ve been hiding from Starfleet and you didn’t even bother to find out why they wanted you.  And what the hell is with this marriage of yours?  Have you lost your mind?”

“B'Elanna, Starfleet is not too happy with me; they probably want to ship me off Earth as fast as they can, so yes, I have avoided them.”  Belanna’s questions finally registered with Chakotay.

“Marriage? What are you talking about?  I haven’t even asked her yet, and now I can’t find her. Who told you I was planning to get married?”

“We found out through Kathryn; she told us, and she is the one who sent Starfleet to find you.”

“I haven’t even talked to Kathryn so how could she know I was thinking about marriage?  She sent Starfleet to find me? Why?” Chakotay was getting more confused by the minute.

“Well, I don’t think she wanted you to find her until Kol got sick. Now finding you could be the key to saving his life.  You can’t waste any time here, Chakotay.”

“Wait a minute, why was she hiding from me?  And who is Kol?”

“She was hiding from you.  I guess it was the news of your upcoming marriage; that really devastated her.  Kolopak is your son; he’s 17 months old and is dying from some rare blood disorder. The virus that you had on New Earth has affected his blood so he can’t have a transfusion from just anyone. Kathryn has a different blood type, so it’s now up to you, Chakotay. You have to hurry; he’s in the hospital near Lake George.”

“I’m leaving right now.  Hey, thanks guys.”

“Hey, wait a minute, what about this marriage?”

“Bella, it’s a long story and I obviously don’t have time to explain now, but don’t worry. I’m not married; I never have been. I came here with a friend, but I don’t want to marry her. I need to get going, to find the woman I did come to Earth to marry, and to help my son.” He grabbed his backpack and headed back for the transport center.

************

Chakotay walked down the halls towards the room that his son was in.  He was nervous; he had just given the lab all the blood samples they needed and assured them he wouldn’t leave until Kol was better.  If they found he was a compatible donor they would need his bone marrow; he had already signed the consent forms for the transplant to save time later.  Kathryn didn’t know he was here yet.  The doctor said she never left Kol’s room.  He stopped in front of the door and peered through the window.  Chakotay saw Kathryn leaning on the crib with her hand stroking their baby’s hair.  What a beautiful sight!   He hoped it was one he would see more often in the future under happier circumstances.  Taking a deep breath, Chakotay opened the door and entered the room.  She looked up at him then back down to the baby. “I was afraid they would never find you?”  Kathryn’s voice was soft. She sounded tired – physically and emotionally.

“I’m sorry, Kathryn. I didn’t know or I would’ve been here much sooner.  I already gave the doctors blood samples.”  He stepped up to the crib to gaze at his son sleeping so peacefully. “He’s beautiful, Kathryn.”

“Yes, he is.  He looks just like you except he has my eyes.  Thanks for coming, I . . .” she wiped the tears forming in her eyes.  She turned to look at him.  He opened his arms and she took sanctuary and let the tears flow.  He might be married already but right now she needed him.  Chakotay waited until the tears had stopped.

“Kathryn, please, you have to hear me out— now, before you say anything else.”  He pulled up a chair next to hers. “I didn’t know about the baby; I never received any letters.  God, how I wish I had known about him.  Knowing about him would have made those two years I waited to be with you so much easier.  I want to make up for the time I’ve lost with you and with him — if you’ll let me.”

“But, Chakotay, . . .”

“Shhh, let me finish.  Second, my marriage . . . well, there is no marriage; there never was. I don’t know where you got that idea.”

Kathryn thought a moment, “Well, Admiral Paris called and said… he said you arrived with a woman that you had shared quarters on the transport, that the two of you were holding hands and on your entry visas it said the purpose of you visit to Earth was marriage. He said that…”

“What?  Why would he tell you that?” Chakotay was angry until he realized it was all true.

“Well, I guess I should say I’m sorry. It is true, at least that part is. I did come with Mataya and I can’t wait for you to meet her; you’ll like her.  We probably were holding hands; or I should say she had a death grip on my hand because it was her first time in space.  As for the shared quarters, they didn’t give us a choice; it was the last cabin on the transport so she took the bed and I took the couch. As for the entry passports, well she was coming here to marry Jack. I was coming here to….” He paused to pull out the small pouch out of his pocket so she could see his parent’s rings.

“I love you, Kathryn.  I have for a very long time.  You know that I was coming here to ask you to marry me, Kathryn.  You — not Mataya.”

Kathryn was speechless, just minutes ago, she thought her world had fallen apart, now she was being given everything she wanted. “Chakotay, I don’t know what to say. I thought, well that you…”

“Then say yes, Kathryn. Please say yes.”

Kathryn looked down at her son, her tears freely falling, “I thought I lost you and then when Kol became so sick; I didn’t know what to do.  I didn’t know what I would do if I lost him; he was all I had left of you in my life.”

“You’ll have me in your life a very long time, if you still want me.  Please still want me, Kathryn.  You and my son are my life.”  She leaned over and wrapped her arms around him, still crying, “of course I still want you, Chakotay. He’ll be OK now that you are here; he just has to be. And Chakotay… yes.”

***********

Luckily Chakotay proved to be a compatible marrow donor for Kol so they performed the transplant later that evening. Now they just had to wait.  The doctors expected Kol to do just fine. Kathryn was still amazed at the fact the she and Chakotay fell right back into the love they had before he was incarcerated as if the more than two years apart had never happened. She knew she could trust him, and believed what he had told her.  She had yet to meet Mataya, but knew that would happen as soon as Kol was better.

Kol was amazing the doctors with his recover; after only a few of weeks, he was already regaining the energy he had before and was no longer content to lie in his crib anymore. Chakotay was fascinated watching his son. His son. That still amazed him more than anything. In the short time he had been with Kathryn before his incarceration, they had created Kol out of their love for each other.

Kathryn. Now there was someone else who never ceased to amaze him. Now that Kol was doing better Chakotay was seeing a side of her that he never imagined. Ok so he did imagine it, but only in his dreams.  The way she completely lit up in the presence of the baby.  (He never realized that she lit up the same way when he was with her.) The way she talked, the way she played; he had never seen her so completely relaxed.  Today even more so for today the doctors had told them Kolopak was well enough to go home. They would release him tomorrow, with strict instructions for Kol’s doctor back home. Yes, he would have to be monitored for the next few months, but Kol was going home, where he would continue his life with his mother and his father.

************

Kathryn lay back on the couch, her arm covering her eyes, she was completely exhausted. They had arrived home yesterday there had been a never-ending stream of visitors.  Tom and Belanna were the first to arrive wanting to meet young Kol.  Next came Mataya and Jack. Chakotay had been right — Kathryn liked Mataya with her fiery personality that fit well with Kathryn. Kathryn knew she found herself a new friend. Of course, Phoebe came by for a short time and so did the neighbors. All in all it left Kathryn and Chakotay no time to spend alone together.  The first night home Chakotay had fallen asleep on the couch.  He had looked so peaceful that Kathryn didn’t have the heart to wake him. Now here she was about to do the same thing.

“Hey, come on, its time for bed.”  He was just inches from her face. She moved her arm and allowed it to slink around his neck pulling him down to meet her lips; the kiss was soft, but promising.  He smiled at her as he pulled away, then reached down and swept her off the couch. “I want to show you just how much I missed you.”

“Hmmm, you do, do you? This sounds like fun.” She laughed suddenly not as tired as she thought.  He carried her into the bedroom where he gently laid her on the bed. He carefully removed her shoes and socks before moving up to her pants. “Are you sure this is ok, Kathryn?”

“Hmmm, definitely ok.” She responded.

He chuckled softly as he began to remove the rest of her clothing.  Not sure she was still awake, Chakotay checked one more time. “You’re not too tired are you?”   A completely naked Kathryn responded to his question by promptly flipping him over and straddling him.

“Someone here is extremely overdressed.” She slid down his legs and began unbuttoning his trousers; once off she moved to his shirt while he raised himself up to help her.  She began placing kisses all along his chest, stopping to gently nibble on his nipples. Making her way down, she paused at his belly button, licking the edges of it then making a trail till she reached his underwear.

“Kathryn, you’re teasing.”

She answered him with a moan and pulled his underwear over his feet, then made her way back up his legs until she reached his now hard member.  Taking it firmly in her small hands, she began gently licking the rim, bring forth deep moans from Chakotay, then a hiss, “Kathryn, stop, or I will…”

“I want you, too. I want to taste you.” She answered before taking him fully in her mouth.  It wasn’t verylong before he was spurting his seed down her throat. “Wow!” was all that he could manage to say once he was able to speak again.  She licked her lips then made her way back up his torso to kiss him firmly on the mouth, prying his mouth open to let him taste himself.

“My turn.”  He then flipped her over and proceeded to give her the same treatment she had given him. By the time he reached the juncture other legs he had her moaning loudly.  By her reaction he knew it wouldn’t take much to send her over the edge; his tongue snaked out and gently licked her bundle of nerves, sending more shivers up her body. “Yesssss” she moaned, a hand moving to his hair, keeping him firmly in place. He inserted a finger up her core while his tongue worked magic on her now extremely sensitive bundle.  Within seconds she too was coming loudly, her juices flowing over his fingers.

He didn’t give her time to recover; he made his way up, and nestled himself between her legs.  He positioned himself at her entrance and entered her in one thrust.  She met his thrusts with her own, accelerating steadily to another orgasm.  Chakotay felt himself building along with Kathryn until they both exploded at the same time in orgasms more intense than their first. He collapsed onto her, completely spent.

“Wow!” Was all she managed to say once she was able to speak again.

“Hmmm,” was his reply as he buried his face in her neck, “I love you, Kath. I have truly come home.”

“I love…” a wail from the other room interrupted her. “Maybe I should have named him Tuvok, his timing is about the same.  Get up, I’ll go get him.” She said chuckling as she tried to push Chakotay off her so she could get up.

“No, you stay; I’ll go get him.”  He reached for his pants, slipped them on and left the room.  It took just a few back rubs to get little Kolopak back to sleep but by time Chakotay had returned, he found Kathryn sound asleep. “Yes, I am truly home.” He commented as he curled up next to her.

Epilogue:

Chakotay returned home after a long day at the university. He had found a job teaching anthropology at the local collage; despite his prison record, they had been eager to have the First Officer of the famous Voyager join their faculty.  Entering his home, he was quickly greeted by Kol, now almost 3 and into everything. He was in complete remission from Shatia’s syndrome and the doctors believed it would not recur.

“Hey, little man, where’s your mom?”

“Feeding Shay. Can we go play outside, daddy?”

“Let me go say hi to your mom and sister first, then we can go outside for a little while, ok?”

“Ok.” Kol accepted that and ran off to wait impatiently by the back door.

Chakotay entered the living room to find his wife nursing their 2-month-old daughter. Shayanna Noel showed no signs of Shatia’s Syndrome.  The doctors did not expect her to develop it but had screened her thoroughly to make Kathryn happy.    She did though carry the same additional blood factor that her parents and brother shared; New Earth’s legacy is what the doctors were calling it.

“Hello, love, how was your day?” he asked kissing her gently on the lips.

“Mmm, just fine, how was yours?”

“Ah, nothing new going on there.  Just had to talk some of my Kathryn Janeway wannabes out of staging a sit –in at the administration building as part of a recreation of the 1960’s social turmoil we’re currently studying.”  Kathryn chuckled as he placed a small kiss on the forehead of his daughter. Chakotay looked up and started laughing, “Don’t worry, Kol, Daddy will go change then take you outside.” His son was still standing at the door, hand on the handle with a look on his face that often reminded him of Kathryn’s death glare.  “I better hurry.”

Chakotay ran upstairs and returned a minute later, and the two of them raced out the door.  Shayanne had finished nursing so Kathryn laid her in the bassinet and went to the window to watch the men in her life. She was so lucky to have Chakotay; he did so much for her never asking for much in return. At times she felt guilty for the way she had behaved on Voyager, for how she had held him off even when they were stranded on New Earth. But he constantly told her that the love and the family she gave him was all that he wanted and all that he needed; his tenderness warmed her heart. She went back to the bassinet and glanced at their sleeping child. Yes, New Earth had left many legacies in its wake, but the most important of its legacies was love.
